ON1 software

ON1 software, subscriptions and standalone plug-ins explained

ON1 Photo RAW is ON1’s principal product, though it does now have various spin-offs (more below).

ON1 software family
  • ON1 Photo RAW
  • Professional plug-in series
  • ON1 Plus membership

ON1 Photo RAW

ON1 Photo RAW is an all-in-one photo organising, cataloguing, processing, editing and effects program that supports image layers, panorama merging, HDR merge and more. It does have some quirks and a pretty busy interface, but no single program does more than this one. ON1 Photo RAW is available for one one-time ‘perpetual’ license, or as a tiered subscription package with 200GB or 1TB of cloud storage included to allow synchronisation with other computers and ON1’s mobile app.

  • These separate subscription tiers replace the ON1 360 service originally launched and include the ON1 Photo RAW software.

Professional plug-in series

ON1 Photo RAW also works as a plug-in for Photoshop and Lightroom – or rather a series of plug-ins to access different key modules. It looks as if ON1 has decided to split these off and sell them separately or as a bundle to photographers who want these tools but not the full standalone ON1 Photo RAW software. All five plug-ins will also work as a standalone programs.

  • ON1 Effects 2021: This appears to be the Effects module plug-in installed with ON1 Photo RAW, but sold separately.
  • ON1 Portrait AI 2021: Again, this is presumably the Portrait AI plug-in installed with ON1 Photo RAW, sold separately.
  • ON1 Resize 2021: Another plug-in component of ON1 Photo RAW being sold on its own. Resizing can be useful, but selling it as an individual plug-in seems a bit of a stretch.
  • ON1 HDR 2021: ON1 Photo RAW does include HDR merge options, but this is not installed as a plug-in, whereas this product is both a plug-inland a standalone app.
  • ON1 NoNoise AI 2021: This is different to the others, a new product that does not appear to have an equivalent in ON1 Photo RAW and applies demonising during RAW demosaicing using AI machine learning.

ON1 Professional plug-ins cost $69.99 individually or $149.99 as a bundle.

ON1 Plus membership

This is a subscription to training and tutorial resources and does NOT include cloud storage and synchronisation. For that you need an ON1 Photo Raw subscription (above).

ON1 Plus membership includes videos, courses and other assets, with more added every month. Subscription content is becoming more common, but users must decided for themselves if the outlay is worth it. Prices change often, so check the website for the latest.
