Learn how to use HDR Efex Pro 2 presets

September 19, 2013 by Rod Lawton

HDR Efex Pro 2 presets

HDR Efex Pro 2 is supposed to be easier to work out than the previous version (uh huh?), but the HDR Method controls take a little understanding. I’ll cover them in more detail another time (when I’ve worked them out properly), but the ones I’ve chosen for this photograph are Normal Depth, Realistic Detail and Sharp Drama.

I think the sky needs to be a little darker to bring out some cloud detail, so I’ve moved down the tools panel to the Finishing panel and the Graduated Neutral Density section. I’ve reduced the Upper Tonality and dragged the Vertical Shift slider to place the darkening effect level with the top of the bridge.

05 Vignette effect

I think a vignette will finish this picture off nicely, concentrating attention in the centre and adding a little depth and contrast. I like this effect, so I want to save it as a new preset…
